Graphic Communications

Photography

Today an education...tomorrow a career

Welcome! My name is Ms. Judy Brint-Murphy (people called me Ju-Ju), and I teach Advertising/Graphic Design & Photography (new class starting Fall 2012) at ASD in Warfield building (downstairs) since 1998, a secondary school where students use cutting-edge technology. We also use scanners and digital cameras/camcorders.  Students create a variety of projects in design, print, web, and photography/video formats. They also produce products such as signs, banners and many more. This 55 minutes course introduces students to fundamental, intermediate and advanced levels - principles of visual communication with photographed, designed, printed and digital materials.

Our students will develop by design in variety of layout (in principles of communication with photographed, printed and digital materials) by using the Adobe Creative Suite 5 program (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and others). Projects include designing brochures, calendars, menus, logos, letterheads, business cards, package design, illustration, photo montages and etc. In addition, students will explore advertising/graphic design and photography careers, design creative resumes, and showcase their work by documenting their projects and creating an electronic portfolio (end of the year). Also, they will learn digital photography and develop videography skills using digital cameras/camcorders.

Students have the opportunity to participate in the student organization SkillsUSA.

Also, Graphic Communications class is one of other classes I am currently teaching to a special group of high school students (Team Ready). Students will learn variety of skills (computer – design/scanning/photography, printing, bindery and organization). These students will learn and work at same time by design and prints materials for ASD departments (business card, envelopes, letterheads, posters, and etc.) and outside clients (program books, restaurant menus, business cards, envelopes, notepads and etc.).

(Above) ASD students competed at 2010 Arkansas SkillsUSA for Opening & Closing Ceremony (leadership competition which they won for bronze medal).

2012 Arkansas SkillsUSA news:

ASD Student (Del'Vante) won gold medal for Job Interview Category and qualified for National SkillsUSA competition against 16 state contestants. He did not place in finalists. Well done Del'Vante!

ASD 7 students (team) in Opening & Closing Ceremony category won bronze medals! Congratulations!
