Family and Consumer Science COURSE SYLLABUS
Course Description Family and Consumer Science is designed to provide students with basic information and skills needed to function effectively within the family and within a changing, complex society. Emphasis is given to the development of competencies related to family, career and community leaders of America; individual and family relationships; arrangement of personal living space; wardrobe planning and selection; garment care and construction; selection of toys and age-appropriate play activities for children; health and safety procedures related to child care; nutrition and food selection; mean planning, preparation, and service; home management; money management; use of credit and banking services; consumer education; computer use at home, in school, and in the workplace; and career skills. Upon completion of this course, the student should have developed basic life skills that promote a positive influence on the quality of life. Units of Family and Consumer Science 1. Individual and Family Relationships 2. Housing and Interior design 3. Clothing and Textiles 4. Child Development 5. Food and Nutrition 6. Home Management and Consumer Education Course Requirements Students taking this course will be expected to: · Participate in all class discussions, labs, projects and assighnments · Complete homework and class work assignments · Pass quizzes and tests at a proficient level · Utilize library resources and technology effectively to complete assignments and labs. · Attend class in compliance with the school district attendance plicy Supplies Required: · Binder with tabs · Composition notebook · Pen/pencil · Notebook paper If you or your parents have magazines you could donate to the class, I would appreciate it!!! Grades The grading scale in the student handbook will be used. Grades will come from the following: · Group Activities · Class Participation, worksheets/Bookwork · Class Projects · Quizzes/Tests Class Rules · Stay in classroom unless given permission to leave. · Be prepared with class materials and completed homework. · Be on time to class. · Take care of equipment and books. |
